Christian Education Committee
The Christian Education Committee is a group of individuals who work together to ensure that children and their families have opportunities at Knox to explore the Christian faith and build a Christian community. They work with the CE Coordinator, Jayne Bossert, to deliver a solid Sunday morning Church School program and arrange special events throughout the year. The current Church School curriculum, from Abingdon Press, is entitled The One Room Sunday School and meets the program needs of the Church School very well.
There has been steady growth in the Church School. Currently 25-30 children and their parents attend quite regularly which represents about a 50% increase over the year.
For Younger Children
Under the watchful eyes of Diane, a more structured program for the younger children in the Nursery was developed and is now in place.
For ages 5 and up,
Jayne coordinates the entire program and teaches the Primary children; Flora Wesley works with the Juniors. Under our direct supervision, several Agincourt Collegiate students continue to assist as they accumulate their 40 hours of community service in order to gain credits in school program.

Given that the instructional and activity time for Church School is relatively short, the committee has developed an “Incident Protocol” to ensure appropriate, socially acceptable, respectful, and safe behaviour. This is a due diligence issue since the teachers and helpers act “in loco parentis” when working with children. Volunteers are always needed and welcome!! The coordinator can address questions, if any.
Special Events and Activities
These include a “kick-off” picnic in September, an Advent celebration, a family Christmas Eve service, family bowling and participation in other congregational events such as the Fall Fair, pancake supper and June BBQ.
Each Sunday, and especially for White Gift Sunday, the children are reminded of the need to care for others with gifts of food for the Food Bank at Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA). In this way they are learning to experience the Bible verse adopted as last year’s theme: “We love… because He first loved us”. 1 John 4:19.
Last Year’s Events
Vacation Bible Adventure in August and the “penny drive” project at Christmas to raise money to purchase items from the World Vision Christmas catalogue were highlights of 2008. The children, with the help of the Anniversary Committee and members of the congregation, raised $710 and selected soccer balls, mosquito nets, toys, textbooks, clothes, blankets, a mobile medical clinic and 2 hens and a rooster.
